WASHINGTON, DC (Dec. 5, 2013) – Washington Redskins’ Linebacker Ryan Kerrigan and nine of his teammates welcomed nearly 170 guests to his First Annual Celebrity Waiter Night at Ruth’s Chris Steak House in Arlington Monday.
Teammates London Fletcher, Adam Gettis, Darryl Tapp, Kirk Cousins, Kedrick Golston, Alfred Morris, Will Montgomery, Logan Paulsen and Doug Worthington donned aprons to show their support for Kerrigan’s Blitz for the Better Foundation and its mission to help families of special needs and critically ill children in D.C.
“My cousin has special needs,” said Kerrigan. “I know the extra pressure that it puts on a family, and that’s why I started the foundation. Having all this support from teammates just shows the kind of guys we have on this team.”
Redskins helped serve appetizers and top off drinks while mingling with guests and signing autographs. Kerrigan gave a personal hug to every guest who donated money that night - and then matched the donations up to $10,000. Funds were also raised through a thrilling silent and live auction emceed by Toby Knapp from HOT 99.5.
The First Annual Celebrity Waiter Night raised $108,000 for the foundation.
Kerrigan didn’t waste any time putting that money to good use.
With the help of generous sponsor, Walmart, Kerrigan hosted a toy drive during the last two weeks of November. On Tuesday, he visited with patients at Children’s National Health System for Ryan’s Reindeer Rush program. Kerrigan visited patients in their hospital rooms and colored with them in play rooms while he handed out toys and footballs.
“It’s been a big finish to an exciting year for the foundation,” Kerrigan said.
