ARLINGTON, VA (Sept. 17, 2014) – One day after his 4-sack game, Washington Redskins’ Linebacker Ryan Kerrigan made big moves off the field. Monday night Kerrigan and nine teammates traded uniforms for Ruth’s Chris aprons to serve dinner for a cause.
The event was Kerrigan’s Second Annual Celebrity Waiter Night hosted at Ruth’s Chris Arlington. Kerrigan and crew welcomed nearly 180 guests with serving trays of appetizers and later, hot plates of sizzling steak.
Redskins in attendance included: Niles Paul, Shawn Lauvao, Alfred Morris, Gabe Miller, Adam Hayward, Jackson Jeffcoat, Ryan Clark, Braxton Cave and Darrel Young.
“I’m really thankful that my teammates could come out and join me tonight,” Kerrigan said. “It’s a fun night for us, too. This is a different kind of event for us, we don’t usually have the chance to interact so closely with our fans.”
Kerrigan gave a personal hug to every guest who donated money that night - and then matched donations up to $15,000. Funds were also raised through a silent and live auction emceed by Toby Knapp from HOT 99.5.
“Tonight we were raising money for a really special cause,” said Kerrigan. “My foundation is centered on helping special needs, critically and chronically ill children. This spring we’re trying to launch our first Kerrigan’s Korner at Children’s National Health Systems.”
Kerrigan’s Korner is an electronic hub stocked with dvds, iPads, games and more. It is located in the out-patient wing of children’s hospitals to help provide entertainment and distractions for children and their families during treatment.
Kerrigan’s Celebrity Waiter Night was held in memoriam of late board member, Wayne Curry. Many memories and toasts were held in his honor. When the Foundation launces it’s first Kerrigan’s Korner, it will be dedicated to Curry.
